For a client event, we created an interactive experience around a 10-metre-wide, 4-metre-high LED wall. At that scale, a screen becomes part of the room. We wanted the people passing it to become part of the image, too: a step to one side, an arm lifted, a small change of direction leaving a visible trace in the light.

The invitation is deliberately simple. Walk in front of the wall and a field of luminous particles gives way around your movement. Colour gathers, separates and curls into the space you leave behind. There is no score to reach and no sequence to learn. The interaction starts with something everyone already knows how to do.

An atmosphere that stays alive

The wall is already moving before anyone approaches. Gentle turbulence carries the particles through layers of depth, giving the surface a quiet rhythm. When a visitor enters the interaction zone, that rhythm becomes more energetic. Nearby particles pick up momentum and form a wake; after the person moves on, the field gradually settles.

That transition matters in an event space. The installation needs a presence while people gather and talk, as well as a clear response when someone chooses to engage. Its idle movement invites attention without demanding it.

Light, colour and a little space for the brand

Magenta and teal set the starting mood. Between them, the gradient passes through cooler violet and blue, with bright highlights catching individual particles. Layers move at different depths, and lighting helps separate the nearest points from the softer cloud behind them.

The identity sits within that atmosphere. A quieter area keeps the logo readable while the particles continue moving around it. Colours, density, particle size, light levels and logo placement remain editable, so the same interaction can be adapted to the visual language of a different event.

Built around the person in front of it

The planned interaction zone sits roughly one to two metres in front of the LED wall. Movement in different parts of the camera view can influence nearby particles independently: a hand and a shoulder do not have to travel in the same direction for the image to respond.

The particle field is a three-dimensional simulation. The webcam demo measures visible motion in two dimensions and applies it as forces within that field; it does not measure the visitor’s distance from the screen. Depth sensing and camera coverage for the full installation must be selected and calibrated to the venue.

To make the proportions easier to judge, the playable preview includes a 1.75-metre-tall walking figure, positioned 1.5 metres in front of the wall. Turn on Visitor mode and watch it cross from left to right. Its animated silhouette drives the response: moving arms, legs and torso give nearby particles their own direction and momentum. It provides a human reference for the 10 × 4 metre surface and a repeatable way to see the particles respond.

Try a small movement

The online version brings the interaction to your own screen. Hold and drag your mouse, or use your finger, to push through the field. Press W to enable the webcam, allow access and keep the view empty during calibration. Step into view afterwards and move. The camera runs locally on your device; the demo does not record or upload its images.

Press D to see the walking visitor, change the palette to explore a cooler atmosphere, or pause to examine a moment. The browser version is an adaptation for everyday devices, while the event installation remains editable in Unity. The aim is the same at either scale: give a small human movement a larger, visible presence.
